A practical decision framework for picking between WooCommerce, Shopify, and Magento based on catalog complexity, ops maturity, and growth horizon.
There is no universally "best" e-commerce platform — only the right fit for a catalog, an ops team, and a growth horizon. Here is the framework we use with clients:
**WooCommerce** when content and SEO are the engine, catalogs are small-to-medium, and the team already lives in WordPress. Great for service-led retailers pivoting online (as we did with Guideline Trading).
**Shopify** when speed, reliability, and ecosystem leverage matter more than deep customization. Best for brands ready to commit to Shopify's opinionated workflows (Safari Ltd. migrated here from a legacy stack).
**Magento (Adobe Commerce)** when catalog complexity, B2B pricing, or deep ERP integration are non-negotiable. Pearlworks and Think Vacuums both leaned on Magento for catalog flexibility.
We close with a scoring sheet covering 12 dimensions — TCO, catalog modeling, SEO control, headless readiness, ERP fit, and more — so teams can choose on evidence, not vibes.
